Memorial Day

History – Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is held on the last Monday in May. It is a day to remember and honor soldiers who died while serving in the military. In some towns and cities, they have parades and special events. Flying the American flag is very important, marching to patriotic songs, and placing flowers and flags on the graves of those in our family who died or were injured while in the military. The traditional flower for Memorial Day is the red poppy.
